3XN DESIGNS WALLPAPER* MAGAZINE'S HYGGE CHRISTMAS MARKET

2016.12.16

"Taking inspiration from snowflakes and how they form, we created a flexible structure where modules, which can be assembled without any adhesive, can 'crystallize' in different directions using very few components," said 3XN Founder and Creative Director Kim Herforth Nielsen.

3XN designed an interlocking modular system out of 5mm thick corrugated white polypropylene sheets. It satisfies the brief for a pavilion that was affordable, simple and quick to assemble while simultaneously evoking the poetry and magic of snowflakes and the magazine's iconic asterisk. The modules, stacked three high, create an undulating pattern that defines the 500m2 retail area, in which freestanding modules serve as tables and display areas. Individual modules feature internal illumination and shelves to hold retail product from leading Danish brands.

"After Nordic Noir and Nordic food, the Danish way of life embodied in the concept of hygge has reached the UK," said Claus Grube. "The spirit of hygge is to be found in togetherness and generosity, values that are particularly relevant at this time of the year. I am therefore delighted to be collaborating with Wallpaper* in organizing the Hygge Christmas market. Visitors to 3XN's highly original pavilion will be exposed to first-class Danish food, products and more."

Co-curated by a team made up of Wallpaper* editors and Denmark's finest designers, the market offers the best in Danish interiors, craft, fashion and food - including Georg Jensen, Hay and Skagen - with lighting courtesy of Tivoli Lights.
