3XN will compete to design Germany's largest public library

As the only Danish architecture firm out of 50 shortlisted firms, 3XN will compete to design a new library in Berlin. The library will be the largest public library in Germany covering 51,000 m².

The current library is divided into three different locations in the city and the vision is to merge all the functions into one single building.

The library will be located on the South Western side of Tempelhof (the old airport site) in Berlin.

Other shortlisted architecture forms include London-based Zaha Hadid and French Dominique Perrault and the winner will be announced mid-December.
